Early morning - and the young people are dancing on the dock
Last Chilean Port of Call, Coquimbo, a fishing town located along the shores of a large bay. Sunday - definitely a day of rest 'dpowntown'.
Surprisingly, a contingent of local musicians and folkloric dancers had turned up at the dock around 7 a.m., way earlier than normal Latinos ever climb out of bed on a Sunday. It was still cold, and the poor things were shivering under their protective coats.
However, a few early risers aboard as well as the tour participants made for a pretty enthusiastic audience, so the valiant efforts ashore were not in vain.
I stayed aboard until the day had advanced to a more civilized time of day, went ashore and the first (closed) entertainment venue I encountered was the local Tango Club.
Looking along the main drag of Coquimbo, one could shoot the proverbial cannon ball down the street and hit neither pedestrian or vehicle. Totally deserted. Even the church was empty.
Everything, but everything was closed....nothing to do but head for the fish market.
About that one - on the next instalment.
