25 March 2012 - Leaving Cadiz

Two full days and nights here in Cadiz, the oldest continuously inhabited city of the Western World. I goes back to the 12th century BC, when merchants from Tyre founded it and called it Gadir. During it's existence it has housed Carthaginians, Romans, Moors, Visigoths, Vandals - just about everyone from the European Continent and a few from Africa and Asia Minor as well.
Columbus set out from here, Francis Drake attacked it, Napolean tried to conquer it; there was the Spanish-American war, and Franco's dictatorship left it's imprints on the city.
It is now 200 years, since the first Constitution of Spain was signed here - reason for year long festivities during this year - 2012.
Treasure hunts for art lovers uncover El Grecos, Goyas, Murillos, Zurbaran and many more....Cadiz, so rich in History and Culture.
