24 March 2012 - Street Scenes of Seville

Narrow old streets, where each house boasts a number of balconies and windows, all enclosed with wrought iron bars.
The Plaza Espanol stuns with a huge amphitheatre of graceful arches, dozens of mosaics and tile paintings.
The biggest bull ring in Spain is in Seville. Toreros are only allowed to exit through the main portal if they have earned the "Ear of a Brave Bull" as a reward for a brave and honorable fight. By the way, the meat of fighting bull is now sold to restaurants and offered as a specialty. It is rather tough, as these beasts are not bred for tenderness. In olden days, their meat was donated to the poor. The Spaniards say, that fighting bulls have a spoilt and enjoyable life, which only has one bad day...probably better than living ones life in a feed lot...
Old buildings of cigarette factories are now hotels or offices, the Gipsy Quarter on the far side of Seville's river, the Bull Ring...all remind one of the story of Bizet's Opera Carmen. It all took place right here...
Spanish Ladies, dressed attractively like Carmens for a wedding feast sashay along the sidewalks.
A heady mix of orange blossoms and horse dropping scent the air.
