7 Jan 2012 - Gardel Museo in Abasto

La ciudad es un horno! Meaning, Buenos Aires is an oven. And it definitely felt like it with 39 degrees at midday.
The heat nust have fried my apartment internet provider, because is is definitely out of commission.
Internet cafe to the rescue...

Abasto, home barrio to Carlos Gardel. A whole block of houses is painted with filete, even this (closed) service garage, with the apt name of 'The Bolt'.

Sample of facade of one of the old houses around the barrio

All colours, all designs....

Carlos Gardel Lived Here

A plaque at the house, which has been converted to a museum to Carlos, Patron Saint of Tango Song.

A One Peso (25cents) entry fee, a good deal on a hot day.

Carlos' laundry room with ironing board, sinks - and lots of photos, as well as allegedly one of his fedoras.

The films, in which he acted and sometimes performed his songs, are playing non-stop in one of the museum's rooms.

A Valentino in his own right.

Carlos in a rather elaborate Gaucho outfit, with jewel encrusted belt and spurs.

Woman, you have offended me...

the great Macho Argentino

a battered bandoneon

Gardel is dead...Complete History of his Life, his Triumphs, his Loves, his most successful Songs.

He died in a plane crash over Colombia in his thirties.

He is buried, 'near the grave of Jorge Isaacs', in the same cemetery as Peron, who also did not make it into the more exclusive Recoleta (where his wife Evita is buried in her family mausoleum).

Ah, and the news...

cooler today - only 30 degrees.

Cristina, La Presidenta, was flown via helicopter from Austral Hospital to the presidential home in Olivos, a barrio of Buenos Aires.

The union workers of the Subte opened all the turnstyles, and let passengers ride gratis for a few hours - in protest to the more than doubling of subway fares.

Draught in Argentina is killing lifestock and ruining harvests. Forest Fires in Patagonia.

That's all folks...
