That's the Plan... |
Just reading the
place names evokes the myth of ancient Greece. Each one of these Islands was
the stage for heroic feats of the Gods, torrid love affairs between heroes and
goddesses, tales of powerful dragons, amorous white bulls, and fierce battles.
Four Islands are on the itinerary. I try to keep the writing
short, and make it up with photos…
25 April 2014, Kerkira, Corfu
Queen Elizabeth II Husband, Prince Philip, was born on
Corfu. Empress Elizabeth of Austria (Pretty Sissi) built a palace here to do
some R&R after her empressing job.

Azure sea and lovely beaches |
Corfu lies in the Ionian Sea. Like all Greek Islands its
history goes back millennia. The old
city of Kerkira is a maze of narrow cobble stoned streets, interspersed with
dozens of churches, flanked by two huge castles and city walls, broken up by
pleasant squares; it even sports a very active cricket ground, where matches
never end, as Cricket usually never does.

Thought Provoking Art in Local Gallery |
I put myself into strolling mode and managed to get lost,
but found myself again in the oldest restaurant in town, The Rex, and indulged
in a REAL Greek salad without lettuce (finally the genuine article). Sidewalk
cafes usually add a little extra to their featured menu item: each one comes
with still warm bread, local olives, and a little tatsiki (?) – delicious!
