Finally - A Hint of Spring in Cowichan Valley

According to the calendar, summer starts within four weeks from now. But, in Cowichan Valley we are still shivering, and waiting for spring to make a lasting appearance. However, the odd sunny day helps to nourish hope for warmer things to come.

My 'garden ornaments' are back and crop the shrubbery and appletree of succulent buds. They brazenly trample through the patio, their moist noses almost close enough to my open window, to let me wipe them with a Kleenex.

Fair weather must be in the offing for a farmer to dare to cut hay and gather it into windrows. Intoxitating scents of freshly mown alfalfa...

Not too many REAL butterflies yet, but the carved ones flutter around in Cowichan Bay art store.

Egg Container Gardening, even the shells are recycled....

Piling Gardening

Barkery Treats - organic of course - for Valley Pooches

Candles made from Valley Bee's Wax

Valley Resident selling seedlings grown in her own greenhouse

These pumps still work - most of the time anyway...

Local knowledge updating information on the Cowichan Valley Trail, part of the Longest Trail in the world, the coast to coast Trans Canada Trail, about 6000km long. A long abandoned rail line now invites to leisurely walks, rides and picnics alongside burbling creeks.

Broom blossoms colour clearings with burst of bright yellow...

Angus families munch aromatic pasture...

A rider with her 'bear warning' sheep dog enjoys a peaceful hack along the Trail. Last week the dog earned his laurels - he spotted a bear before the horses could get scared and helped the rider beat a hasty retreat. He did not show much courage, though, as he did not stop running, until he reached the waiting horse trailer way back on a road intersection.

Way back in the hinterland - an exclusive Hunter Jumper Stable, obviously located beside a secret little lake.

Glenora, a little rural settlement in the ever so rural Cowichan Valley, still boasts historic barns - and historic farm trucks

This farmer had a whole collection of historic miniature vehicles, all stuck in a miniature traffic jam on his cedar plank fence...
