Fall Equinox - Again

Mushrooms, salmon runs, earlier dusk and later dawns, falling leafs - yes, fall again! On Vancouver Island it still feels like a prolongation of our already unusual sunny and warm summer.
A prime example of a 'cauliflower cabbage'. This one had the good fortune to remain unpicked until it reached almost gigantic proportions. It looks like an oversized bath sponge or the brain of a long distinct dinosaur, it tastes delicious either fried up with butter (or olive oil for the health conscious) or as an delicious addition to pasta sauces.

Red Maple Leafs, albeit a pan-Canadian Icon - are relatively rare in BC's mostly coniferous forests, but here is one of them....

Time to pack bags and head south maybe?
