31 March 2013 - Ciao Buenos Aires....

Smooth start of a 30 day journey around Cape Horne to Fort Lauderdale on the Holland America ship 'Veendam'

A very modern terminal in Buenos Aires. My luggage disappeared into luggage limbo as soon as I arrived by taxi. A quick check through Argentinean immigration and one steps aboard. Sooner or later the bags appear magically in one's stateroom (that's what cabins are called nowadays), together with the initial little notes of invitations to various ancient mariner events.

The obligatory 'complimentary' glass of champagne to entice guests to sign up for wine packages to accompany ships dinners. Since the economic downturn, champagne glasses are now filled 1/3 instead of 1/1...still good.

Awaiting the last missing passengers on the obligatory safety drill. Most of the missing guests had Spanish names, however, announcements were made only in English...our Spanish only speaking guests did not quite tune in.

More paintings depicting great departures..
Sitting presently at the Malecon, the shore side promenade of Puerto Madryn, defying a fresh breeze and moist sea air. But - there is free Internet connection compliments of Puerto Madryn.
Many people took tours to various nature reserves around here, as the Valdez peninsula in the Province of Chubut teems with marine wildlife - at certain seasons of the year. Fall falls somewhere between Penguin season and whale season, so I opted for a leisurely walk around town.

More later, about a quick stop in Montevideo, Uruguay...
