Hiked miles over paved tracks and sandy trails past the sting ray lagoon and to Pegasus Ranch. There, about 48 horses live the life of Riley. They work twice a day, meaning they walk on sandy trails for about half a mile (their size matched to the weight of riders), then head back to the 'work barn' to eat hay and wait for the next bunch of tourists.
Their buddies in the meantime have been 'saddled' with pads, and then carry bathing suit clad riders for a short wade through turquoise warm waters.
Back ashore, they also head back to the 'working barn', where they are bathed and eat fresh hay.
The horses know the routine backwards, and every 'ride' is choreographed as to route, timing, mounting and dismounting.
They are all pretty fat and happy, definitely not overworked or ill - treated, and their quarters are a veritable Club Hippique.
Hay is barged in, drinking water for humans and animals like is made on the island, paddocks are large, and stables airy, shady and clean.
