Humble beginnings to a Grand Show.
Luxton, Vancouver Island, where we stage the farthest Western Rodeo in Canada. Yes, competitors come from Montana, Alberta, and points further west (really 'east') or wherever to compete, break their bones, flirt with all the 'cougars', strut their macho stuff, and camp in their trailers accompanied by horses, cattle and girlfriends, wives and groupies. And, without a doubt, put on an absolutely riveting show. Even the rodeo clown provided refreshingly politically incorrect commentary throughout the show. Young and old filled the stands, and if they got tired of watching tough guys master wild animals, they could go and gorge on french fries and hot dogs, win stuffed teddy bears at shooting galleries or ride Ferris wheels or all kinds of other rides.
Vancouver Island came out in droves to Luxton, a nothing little village between Victoria and Sooke on the very South Coast of Vancouver Island, to enjoy a truly 'western' experience, cowboys, cowgirls and cowkids and all.
